Gold: Irish Single Malt Premium 2020 - The Irish Whisky Masters (The Spirits Business)
For this edition, the Teeling team has worked with a family-owned winery in Jerez that dates back to the 18th century and specialises in Pedro Ximénez grapes. This 14-year-old Irish single malt whiskey has been finished in the winery's Pedro Ximénez casks, imparting big ol' scoops of chocolate, fig and festive spice notes.
Paul Cavanaugh - The Whisky Trail "The Teeling Family have done it again and have managed to produce one of my favourite releases of the year. Limited to 10,000 bottles and bottled at 49.5% with no chill filtration, this is truly an Irish whiskey to savour. You can Taste the age and quality in every last drop of this fantastic whiskey."
Jonny McCormick - Whisky Advocate "Sourcing Pedro Ximénez casks used since 1918 at a bodega in Jerez, Teeling left this whiskey to finish for 3 years. A bouquet of sweet red apple, black grape, dried fruits, and blueberry, with sweet roasted cashews, dry spices, and a slightly herbal edge. Blue fruits, plum, cinnamon, and bitter chocolate are harried ferociously by spicy peppercorn, leaving a finish of bruised orchard fruit. Add water and the fruit really shines."
Nose - Fruitcake and plum pudding, with a good dollop of brandy butter.
Palate - Orchard fruit drenched in toffee, dark chocolate shavings, clove, fig and nutmeg.
Finish - A soft hint of toasted brown sugar, before another wave of stewed berries and cinnamon.
While the Teeling Distillery of today was officially opened in 2015, the brand’s history in Irish whiskey actually stretches back to 1782, when a chap called Walter Teeling set up a distillery in the Liberties area of Dublin. Fast-forward to the present and the Teelings are again at the forefront of Irish distilling.
