84/100 Whisky Base 82/100 Whisky Advocate 80/100 The Whiskyphiles
A wonderful bottling of Mortlach single malt from Gordon & MacPhail's Distillery Labels series. This expression was matured for 15 years before being handsomely bottled.
Jan van den Ende - Best Shot Whisky Reviews "I'm impressed... Once you have tasted it, it's very unlikely you will forget the experience"
Dave Broom - Whisky Advocate "Another catch-up from G&M, this time from the ‘Beast of Dufftown.’ Immediate substance and solidity, which is what you want from Mortlach, but there’s also thick-cut marmalade and cumin... A great introduction to a classic distillery."
Bary Bradford - The Whiskyphiles "This bottle encourages me that not only are Mortlach distillery doing something majorly right in the way they produce their whisky but Gordon & MacPhail are also achieving near-perfection in their cask-maturation and bottling regime."
Nose - Stewed fruit and sherried malt, with a hint of clove spiciness.
Palate - Robust barley notes at the core, soon joined by strawberry bonbons and cinnamon sticks.
Finish - A hint of new leather and orange peel.
The Mortlach distillery lies in Speyside’s spiritual heartland, Dufftown, and holds the honour of being the first legal distillery to be built there. Mortlach proffers a classic Speyside flavour, though the set up is far from typical; there are three wash stills and three spirit stills with a combined total capacity of 2.91 million litres annually.
