Loch Lomond Signature is a deluxe blended whisky which after a long and slow maturation is then married and conditioned in Loch Loond's 100 barrel cask solera. The Solera System combines Olorosso sherry casks and American oak casks that have been recharred to create an intensity and smoothness unique to Loch Lomond.
Nose - Very aromatic, fortified wine-style nose. Plump rich sultana with subtle but vinous sherried tinges. Not overpowering but clear and direct. Almost a smoky quality once the darker fruit notes subside.
Palate - A surprisingly malty firm palate. This structure remains throughout but with layers of ripe pears with cinnamon, ginger and dark sugar notes, each taking their turn to appear as the palate develops. Mild hints of dried fruits finish this off. The maltiness is chewy in quality and effect.
Finish - On the finish the dried fruit notes take on an almost blackcurrant tone, more astringent, the sweetness curbed by notes of lemon tartness towards the end.
Over the course of Loch Lomond’s existence, the distillery has released seven different malts. Four of them were destined for blending, the remaining three were intended to be bottled as single malt whiskies, though most have been released as such over the years. The name Loch Lomond is used for single malt releases though it is also used for a blended Scotch produced onsite using both grain and malt whisky.
