ST GEORGE BREAKING & ENTERING AMERICAN WHISKY ~ CALIFORNIA, USA

750ml

87/100 Distillery Score

Released by St. George Spirits in California, Breaking & Entering is the label used for its sourced whiskey line. Like the bourbon which preceded this bottling, this American whiskey was blended by St. George's master distiller, Lance Winters, and head distiller/blender Dave Smith. Straight bourbons from Kentucky & Tennessee, as well as straight rye from Tennessee, were used in the blend. Additionally, malt whiskey distilled at St. George Spirits (aged in used and new barrels, so not a straight whiskey) is also included. This whiskey is bottled at 86 proof. A much wider release is expected for this B & E whiskey than the bourbon, with 29 markets in the US expected to receive beginning fall 2018.

Nose - Coffee beans, peanut brittle, a very soft hint of oaky char, maple syrup and fried dough.

Palate - Pecan, chocolate, spicy rye warmth, honeyed cereals and a few hints of cherry pie.

Finish - Strawberry jam on toast, hickory and caramel.

St. George Spirits is an American craft distillery in Alameda, California that has been producing spirits for the last 35 years. Founded by Jörg Rupf, it was the first small distillery to open after the collapse of Prohibition. Jörg was eventually joined by Lance Winters, a former nuclear scientist and brewer and they worked together distilling spirits for the next 20 years. In 2010, Jörg retired from 28 years of service as master distiller at the company.

The spirits the company currently continues to make include single malt whiskey, Agricole rum, Absinthe, gin, vodka (including flavored versions), apple brandy and liqueurs. St. George Absinthe Verte, which debuted in 2007, was the first legal Absinthe made in the USA since it was banned in 2007. Queues formed at the distillery and all bottles sold out in four hours.
