The oldest expression in this range, the 25-year-old is matured exclusively in refill American oak casks which impart a rich, amber colour whilst retaining the balance between the underlying character of the spirit (the "distillery character"), and the flavours imparted by the wood.
Nose -Â Toffee and herbal notes, with floral scented candles, gooseberries, salted caramel, candied and fresh orange, spiced sponge cake and spiced butter. White grape, honeydew melon and lychee, as well as a touch of cinnamon spice.
Palate - Light and delicate, with milky coffee, cherry, biscuits and some gentle charcoal smoke. Quite fruity and spicy, with sharp pineapple and apple chews joined by cinnamon syrup and oak.
Finish - Earth, gentle wood spice and very old, polished oak.
ï»¿ï»¿The Mortlach distillery lies in Speysideâ€™s spiritual heartland, Dufftown, and holds the honour of being the first legal distillery to be built there. Mortlach proffers a classic Speyside flavour, though the set up is far from typical; there are three wash stills and three spirit stills with a combined total capacity of 2.91 million litres annually.
