TALISKER STORM ~ ISLANDS, SCOTLAND
81/100 Whisky Base
Man of Many '21 Best Scotch Whisky Brands - 2020' N#7
Released in early 2013, Talisker Storm has all the warm, smoky, peppery characteristics we all love in the standard Talisker 10yo - but they've been turned up a notch, with more smoke, more spices, and a bigger-than-ever flavour explosion.
Greg - Great Drams "I was not disappointed. Not one bit."
Master of Malt "A welcome addition to the Talisker range, and probably the smokiest whisky to be produced on the Isle of Skye."
Nose - Restrained yet spicy, with a hint of struck matches; fresh-clean and growing in complexity like a gathering storm to reveal a honeyed sweet maltiness with ripe red berry fruit. Eventually, a little well integrated mellow smoke drifts across the scene as a wild sea turns up briny, fresh clean notes, and an oily explosion of pepper.
Body - Medium
Palate - At first sweetly mellow and rich in the mouth then quickly very spicy and increasingly stormy as the Talisker heat comes through. It’s as if the pure, tongue-coating sweetness joins hands with a deep nutty smokiness to embrace those spicier notes. The flavour is elegantly drawn out with a good balance between sweetness, smoke and salt, which is all the more evident when a little water is added.
Finish - Clean and of medium length, warming, with a lasting, smooth aftertaste, in which late peaty burnt embers can be found.
'21 Best Scotch Whisky Brands - 2020' "Affordable single malt whisky doesn’t get more classic than Talisker. Take for example the Talisker 10 Year, which unravels one layer at a time before trailing out on a peaty finish. It won a Double Gold Medal and “Best Single Malt Scotch up to 12 years” in the 2015 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Move up from there and you arrive at the acclaimed 18 Year, which was named the “Best Single Malt In The World” at the 2007 World Whiskies Awards. No matter which expression you try, you’ll probably smack your lips and say, “Damn, that’s good Scotch!”
The oldest working distillery on the Isle of Skye, Talisker has enjoyed a long and very successful history. It has been the recipient of numerous accolades and medals from prestigious national and international competitions and boasts an incredible core range that includes Talisker 10 Year Old, a gold medal winner at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2017 and 'Best Islands Single Malt' at the 2017 World Whiskies Awards, as well as Talisker 18 Year Old, which won ‘Best Single Malt In The World' at the World Whiskies Awards 2007. To celebrate the distillery’s 175th anniversary in 2005, a no age statement commemorative single malt bottling was released. Two years later in 2007, Talisker 18 year old won ‘Best Single Malt In The World 2007’ at the World Whiskies Awards. Since 2008, the range has vastly expanded with a no age statement quartet and even a 40-year-old expression. Talisker is now one of Diageo’s most distinguished single malt brands.
