NIKKA COFFEY MALT ~ JAPAN
89/100 Distiller score
While most distilleries use their Coffey stills only to make grain whisky, Nikka use the two Coffey stills at their Miyagikyo distillery to create malt whisky too. The Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky was introduced to their selection of expressions in 2014. Plenty rich and flavoursome, it's a wonderful addition to Nikka's fantastic range.
Nose - Fresh and clean, with aromas of candied lemon peel and rich cake spices.
Palate - Robust and spicy, quite a dense mouthfeel and richly textured, with cinnamon and clove on the palate, and citrus-tinged freshness to lighten the load.
Finish - Harmonious blend of dense spices, rich oak, and lemon and orange notes. Delightful.
Nikka Distillery consists of two distilleries; Yoichi and Miyagikyo.
Yoichi Distillery was established in 1934. Positioned in the harsh and rich nature of northern Japan, the climate satisfies everything needed for whisky-making.
Miyagikyo distillery was established in 1969. Along with the different terroir, the different distillation method of Miyagikyo creates distinctive malt whiskies than those at Yoichi.
