JOHN WALKER & SONS 2017 PRIVATE COLLECTION ~ SCOTLAND
93/100 Whisky Base
The John Walker & Sons Private Collection 2017 Edition: Mastery of Oak is the fourth expression in the series that first started in 2014 as a spiritual successor to the Johnnie Walker Directors’ Blends.
Amy Hopkins, The Spirits Business "A combination of three unique blends, each selected for their ability to display different oak characteristics"
The Private Collection is a range that showcases its unique house style yet allows its blenders to push boundaries through these small-batch, once-off blends of rare experimental whiskies. Of course, this makes any expression in this series a pricier collectible, and in this case, with a global limited release of just 5,588 individually numbered decanters – and only 134 slated for the Singapore market – puts a premium on the Mastery of Oak.
Nose - Honey orchard fruit, burnt cinnamon, a burst of pineapple and creamy vanilla.
Palate - Warming oak right from the get-go, joined by juicy raisins and sultanas. A touch of rum spice develops later on, along with chocolate-y caramel.
Finish - Christmas-y spices and a hint of floral sweetness.
Johnnie Walker was created in 1860 when John Walker & Sons began to export the family's whisky. More than 150 years later, it is the world's biggest-selling Scotch whisky brand, available in almost every country worldwide.
