Bunnahabhain 2001 15 Yrs (Douglas Laing - Old Particular)

86/100 - WhiskyBase

Generously-Sherried single malt from Islay's Bunnahabhain distillery, aged for 15 years in a Sherry butt. Said Sherry butt was filled in December 2001 and cracked open in March 2017, with the whisky independently bottled by Douglas Laing. 611 bottles were produced.

Nose - Blackberries and damsons, drizzled with melted dark chocolate and a few flakes of sea salt.

Palate - Spicy at first with cinnamon and ginger, before waves of Oloroso and chocolate balance it out.

Finish - Fruitcake, more Christmas-y spice and salted butter.

Bunnahabhain Distillery was established in 1881 on the northeastern tip of the Isle of Islay by the shore of Bunnahabhain Bay and overlooking the Sound of Islay. All the building materials were transported by puffer and unloaded at the distillery pier. Now tucked away at the end of the single track 'main' road with spectacular scenery all the way. Bunnahabhain Distillery is equipped with four huge pear-shaped stills and produces Scottish malt whiskey which is released in blends and in single malt and single cask bottlings. A participant in Feis Ile, the annual Islay Festival of Malt and Music. Core editions include Bunnahabhain 12-Year-Old and 18 Year Old.
